Rest In Peace, Unsuck DC Metro
Today, it was announced by FIXWMATA that fellow DC Metro critic Unsuck DC Metro died this past weekend. In a future edition of our upcoming series Fit To Speak: From The Archives, which launches next Friday, July 29 on YouTube.com/TheCSEChannel, host Eugene Obah will have more to say about the legacy and impact of Unsuck. Eugene today made the following statement:
“Across the past decade, Unsuck DC Metro, via his blog and across the last several years, Twitter, has been an absolutely outstanding outlet that does what most legacy outlets should be doing but don’t: holding WMATA’s feet to the fire on their colossal failures, of which there are many. Unsuck, as I’ll explain further on the program, built a better mousetrap, and I believe that some of the legacy outlets should be embarrassed at some of their reporting about him, focusing more on feelings—specifically those of the pro-transit-at-any-cost crowd and those of the must-be-perpetually-offended-at-everything-all-the-time crowd—than the fact that Metro, insofar as public transit, is a national embarrassment.
Fortunately—and unfortunately for WMATA—there are and will be many others—including us—that will undoubtedly carry the mantle. The community of those of us who actually like transit but want it to actually function is poorer because of the loss of Unsuck DC Metro. May he rest in peace.”
